The location in south-eastern Berlin is marked by a long traditional background of cooperation between research and economy (This is the birthplace of the German motorflight, and the former research centre of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR). Nowdays, Berlin-Adlershof, City of Science, Technology and Media is one of the largest research and technology parks in Europe where companies, research institutions and the Humboldt-University work closely together.

The IGZ was opened in September 1991 as another location of the "Innovations-Zentrum Berlin Management GmbH", IZBM (managing company of innovation and business incubation centres in Berlin). It is an instrument for the regional promotion of the economy in the South East of Berlin. The IGZ is working in close contact with the other technology and incubation centres of the Berlin region. It is the initial place for the founding, support, and development of companies in Berlin-Adlershof.
The IGZ is especially qualified for start-up entrepreneurs and innovative companies with interest in scientific cooperation, technology transfer and international economic cooperation.

The IZBM offers within the IGZ:

• for start-up entrepreneurs especially from universities, colleges, institutions and existing companies,
• for new developing companies with innovative projects,
• for existing companies with time limited innovative projects

a wide spectrum of assistance- and support-services as well as other forms of extensive services.

For the start and development phase of the companies there is an area of approximately 14,000 square meters of space within modern new buildings under flexible conditions concerning size, time and price. The spaces are of multifunctional use.

The rental price to be paid monthly is from 7.50 to 10.00 Euro per meters squared and includes fundamental services. The additional costs (heating, electricity, etc.) are approximately 2.50 Euro per meters squared and should be paid in advance.
The requirement to become a company within the IGZ is the submission of a business plan with a workable idea.
